The Kickstarter campaign for my new monograph Travelers was a huge success!

Thanks to the support of 531 people, over $49,000 was raised. The book is being printed and will be available soon. It is 120 pages, and includes artworks from the past 6 years.

An astute video commentary about “The Wedding Party” from Evil Tender

“The Wedding Party is hypnotic, a spiral of sadness and joy. The tunnel, the unknown, something can emerge at any moment and bear down on the bride and her loved ones, the manmade crush of innovation decimating her future. It is also a moment of pure poetic optimism, no matter how the world advances and what awaits in the darkness, humankind will continue to commune, to love, move on and innovate in our own individual ways.”

The film “Wilde Wedding” used my paintings

5 years ago the art director asked to use about 10 of my paintings for the sets. A month later he told me there were “problems” with the film, which he didn’t go into, and it would probably never be completed. So I was pleasantly surprised to see it recently popped up on Amazon Prime. It’s surreal to see my paintings in the background of scenes with Glenn Close, John Malkovich, and Patrick Stewart.

New Monograph coming this year

The design work has been completed for my new book “Travelers”. It features works from the past six years, with many pieces never seen elsewhere. It is being produced by the same publishers who did my previous book, “The Well”, and I’m glad to know it will receive the same quality of printing and attention to detail as that book. Look for it later this year.

Neighbor etching proofs,adj3.jpg

New etching, first look

These proofs were made with the help of John Greco at Josephine Press in Santa Monica. It’s a hand made process, so getting the etchings to look right always takes a long time. I’m very lucky to be able to work with John, he is an old school master printmaker with deep knowledge of this art form that is becoming more scarce.

The image is based on a charcoal drawing of mine called “Neighbor.” It will be a low numbered edition coming out in mid April. Be sure to sign up for my newsletter to receive an announcement when it comes out.

Runoff: a graphic novel

This is a project that has been rattling around in my head for a few years. The idea came about when I was thinking about a charcoal drawing (now about 10 years old) called “Runoff”, and the story came to me pretty much fully formed. There were a few false starts while trying out different mediums, but I ultimately decided to go with traditional pen and ink, in part because it’s the medium used by the comic artists I love the most: R. Crumb, Joe Sacco, Chris Ware, and Edward Gorey. It has been great returning to my roots. Drawing it feels like a working vacation.

The story is 100 pages long, and is told entirely in pictures, no words. I’ll post about it again when I have an idea of the release date.
